Who will pay pension payments in an Independent Scotland?

Every so often Nationalists throw out incorrect information regarding who will pay pensions in an independent Scotland.

Neil Lovatt has put some work into getting the official line from the Department of Work & Pensions.

The Freedom of Information request makes it clear that the responsibility for paying pensions in an Independent Scotland falls squarely on the Scottish government's shoulders.

The letter states: "At the time of the letter the correct statement was ‘In the event of independence, State Pensions and benefits in Scotland for its citizens would be the responsibility of a Scottish Government. Therefore, any questions about entitlements in an independent Scottish state should be directed to the Scottish Government.’"
