SNP MP Mhairi Black 'held nose while voting remain'

  • Alfie Baron
Ms Black, MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire South, recently took part in a "Road to Independence" roadshow in Peterhead. During the roadshow many participants have said that Mhairi said "she held her nose while she was voting for Remain". This would suggest that Mhairi may have been reluctant to follow the party's EU stance.

The Telegraph also reports that during the roadshow Allan Sutherland, a member of the Scotland in Union group, took the opportunity to raise with Ms Black a claim made in a Yes newsletter published in Spring 2014 that "families across Scotland are set to be nearly £5,000 a year after a Yes vote in September's referendum."

The Telegraph continued: Mr Sutherland said the 22-year-old told him "it was just a mythical figure they'd used and (it) didn't mean anything".

An SNP spokesperson later dismissed the use of the word "mythical" and suggested Mhairi Black had no recollection of using the word - and that it definitely wasn't her position!
