Scottish Resistance's Sean Clerkin convicted of wasting police time

Sean Clerkin, 56, who has links to pro-independence group the Scottish Resistance has been convicted of wasting police time.

Sean Clerkin managed to gain entrance to a Scottish Conservative event at Hamilton Academical FC stadium in April last year. Stadium manager Walter Hamilton tried to escort Sean Clerkin from the venue.

During the eviction process Sean Clerkin threw himself to the ground and alleged he had been assaulted.

After a police investigation Sean Clerkin was charged with wasting police time, a charge Clerkin was to deny.

Sheriff Marie Smart said Clerkin's claim was "incredible".

The trial lasted for four days after which Clerkin was found guilty. Sheriff Smart went on to criticise Clerkin as police could have used their valuable time investigating real crimes.
