It has been widely reported that a young woman has allegedly claimed that she woke up in MSP Mark McDonald's bed - with no clear memory of how she got there. There is no suggestion of any criminal activity or wrong doing.
The reports suggest that the Scottish National Party (SNP) have called in private investigators, which include a former police officer, to look into the claims.
McDonald, who represents Aberdeen Donside, resigned his ministerial role in November of last year after admitting “inappropriate” behaviour. It is believed that the claims related to text messages he had sent to a woman.
Two weeks later he was suspended by the party after “new information” arose about his conduct.
McDonald has not been seen at Holyrood for over three months - since he resigned his ministerial role.
It is understood that McDonald has a salary in excess of £60,000.
Scottish Conservative deputy chief whip Alexander Burnett said:
“It’s now been three months since Mark McDonald was in parliament.
“He and the SNP have dragged this on for far too long.
“It’s time he and Nicola Sturgeon decided one way or the other. Either he comes back in the next week or he should resign and let someone else represent the people of Aberdeen Donside.
“The Nationalists love to preach to others about how to go about their business, yet when it comes to themselves, they go silent. Enough – it’s high time they sorted this out.”
Labour MSP Rhoda Grant said:
“The Mark McDonald situation is getting ridiculous. He disappeared in a cloak of secrecy and has been missing for three months now.
“Serious questions need to be asked about how the SNP handled this situation. It cannot be right that the people of Aberdeen Donside have an AWOL MSP.”
