Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale has said that student debt has become Scotland's biggest financial asset. Ms Dugdale has highlighted that student debt has hit £2.7bn.

Kezia Dugdale also reminded us that the SNP pledged to write off all student debt before the 2007 Holyrood election - but ditched the promise once they won power.

Kezia Dugdale said: "The student debt monster the SNP once promised to dump is now a debt mountain.

"It's the poorest students in Scotland who are suffering because of the SNP Government's cuts to grants and bursaries."

Kezia Dugdale asked at FMQs: "The student debt monster the SNP once promised to dump is now a debt mountain. Did the first minister ever have any intention of keeping that promise?"

Nicola Sturgeon said the average Scottish student debt was £9,440.
