It is being reported that the SNP are thinking of moving away from just a membership model and will introduce a 'registered supporter' model - in a similar fashion used by Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party.
The SNP saw significant support and high membership numbers after the 2014 independence referendum. It is thought that these members are not renewing their membership when the time comes.
SNP Membership is thought to have dropped to just over 100,000 - following significant rises after the independence and Brexit referendums. It is estimated that membership peaked at 120,000 during the middle of July 2016.
Registered supporters will not be able to vote in internal elections - but will receive emails and be able to volunteer for SNP events.
